Fiddlers ReStrung will present their Spring Concert featuring Darol Anger’s Republic of Strings as guest artist on Saturday April 24, 2010 at Saline High School.  Darol Anger leads this quartet of brilliant string players who are among the most sought out musicians in the progressive strings movement.  Exceptional among modern fiddlers for his versatility and depth, Darol Anger has helped drive the evolution of the contemporary string band through his involvement with numerous cutting-edge ensembles such as his Republic Of Strings, the Turtle Island String Quartet, the David Grisman Quintet, Montreux, the Duo and other ensembles.

ReStrung Group PhotoDarol Anger’s Republic of Strings are one of the most unique and phenomenal groups that have taken the stage in Saline, Michigan for a hometown show.  Somewhere beyond or behind all musical borders lies a creative terrain where bluegrass, jazz, classical, pop, and various world musics mingle, played by musicians who care more for inspiration than they do for genre. If that place has a name, it's surely the Republic of Strings, for no one knows its contours better than musicians Darol Anger, Scott Law, Mike Block, Lauren Rioux, and a tightly knit community of young brilliant string players. They have created the visionary musical landscape of Generation Nation, the group's second album for Compass Records. Drawing from an array of sources as diverse as Ornette Coleman, Scandinavian string bands, Aretha Franklin and the quartet's own members, the Republic of Strings provides a sound unlike anything you have heard before.  Compelling musical textures, elegant solos and vocals all emanate from a startlingly diverse group of guests. "There's a lot of respect and love going on among the players," says Anger, "and I think it comes out in the music." One listen proves that he's exactly right.

The Republic of Strings's music emerges from the deep empathy that has developed among its members over nearly three years of concert appearances and informal exchanges. Anger notes that "we've been out playing everywhere for years now. In any group that's been working together for a long time, you develop an extra-sensory perception of what the other person is going to do. And it's the deep nature of string band music to foster this."  Be sure to check out their website at darolanger.com/republicofstrings.html

In addition to the concert, Darol Anger’s Republic of Strings will lead a workshop at Shar Music’s showroom on Sunday April 25th at 1:00-2:15 PM.  The Shar Showroom is located at 2465 South Industrial Highway, Ann Arbor, MI 48104.  Workshop tickets are $30 and must be pre-purchased by contacting Shar Music at either 734-665-7885 or through their website: www.sharmusic.com.

The first half of the Hometown Concert will feature Saline’s finest youth fiddlers.  Opening the show will be Saline Area School’s 6th Grade Fiddle Club led by ReStrung Assistant Director Corinna Smith.  Also performing will be the Middle School Fiddle Club, led by Fiddlers ReStrung Artistic Director Josh Herter.  Some of these 8th graders in the Middle School Fiddle Club just become the newest members of ReStrung and will start performing with the group during the summer.

Fiddlers ReStrung will close out the first half of the show with its own brand of youthful energy.  Fiddlers ReStrung is a 15-piece ensemble performing over 80 performances annually throughout Michigan and on tour during the summer.  They engage their audiences with energy and witty charm, advocating a message of spontaneous enthusiasm born of a genuine live performance.  They proudly display a diverse arrangement of styles.  American Bluegrass, Celtic fiddle, popular folk, Appalachian Step-dancing, Progressive Acoustic and more are all brought forward with a crisp, enterprising flair.  ReStung consists of students at Saline High School, all of whom share in producing a unique ensemble truly their own.  The concert will feature a number of tunes that will appear on their forthcoming CD, expected to be released by July, 2010.  The group is officially sponsored and supported by Saline Area Schools.

The concert will begin at 7:30 pm in the Ellen Ewing Performing Arts Center of Saline High School.  Reserve seating is limited.  To purchase a reserve ticket, call (734) 944-2283.  Tickets will be available for purchase in-person after February 10th at the Saline Community Education Office, 200 N.
