Spring Hometown 2014

Fiddlers ReStrung "10th Anniversary Hometown Concert"
April 26 to Feature "The Jeremy Kittel Band"

Saline, March 2013. Fiddlers ReStrung will be celebrating its 10th year with its annual Spring Hometown Concert featuring Saline's "hometown star" Jeremy Kittel. This not to be missed event will be held at Saline High School's Ewing Center for the Performing Arts, on Saturday, April 26th starting at 6:30 PM. As the feature guest artist, Jeremy (violin/viola) will be joined on stage by members of The Jeremy Kittel Band, which highlights the talents of Josh Pinkham (mandolin), Simon Chrisman (hammered dulcimer), and new addition Quinn Bachand (guitar/fiddle).

Jimmy Whitman, Fiddlers ReStrung's Artistic Director, will start the show with the talents of the 6th Grade and Middle School Fiddle Clubs, who will perform several songs they have learned as emerging fiddle players. The show will transition to a set spotlighting Saline's own beloved Fiddlers ReStrung, which will play songs specifically scripted and prepared for this event along with many of their traditional favorites. As always, the performance culminates with ReStrung's version of Bill Monroe's classic "The Orange Blossom Special", for which all fiddle players are invited to come on down and join in.

The performance concludes with a set by The Jeremy Kittel Band. Jeremy is known for his work with Grammy winning Turtle Island String Quartet and as a virtuoso jazz improviser and national champion celtic fiddler. His most recent album "Chasing Sparks"
features other internationally known guests Chris Thile, Mike Marshall, and Edgar Meyer. Among his exceptional recognitions, Jeremy was the initial winner of The Daniel Pearl Award and he has graced the cover of Strings Magazine. Please visit his website www.jeremykittel.com.

Moreover, Jeremy is committed to teaching others of all ages and enjoys mentoring those from his hometown. He and his bandmates will be performing class time clinics for as many Saline Orchestra classes as possible ahead of the concert. The band will
also host a public workshop for interested students on Sunday, April 27th at 2:30pm in the High School Orchestra Room. Cost for the public workshop is $10. Tickets are available for the show at the door ahead of the performance or can be purchased ahead
of the show for "will call" at (734) 663-8923. Cost is $15 for adults and $10 for students and senior citizens.

Fiddlers ReStrung is a string ensemble comprising over 20 students of Saline High School who are featured at over 60 performances, all of whom share in producing a unique ensemble truly their own. The organization is officially sponsored and supported by Saline Area Schools and Saline Community Education. Students are chosen based not only on musical talent, but personal maturity as well as balancing a demanding performance schedule while maintaining high standards in other school activities, sports, and academics.
